Bone Health Physiotherapy for Osteoporosis and Osteopenia in Clapham
Told you have osteoporosis or osteopenia, worried about your bones after menopause, or unsure which exercise is safe? Olivia offers bone health physiotherapy for women at our Clapham clinic.
Bone Health Conditions and Treatments
As part of our MSK physiotherapy for women, Olivia helps women with osteoporosis and osteopenia in Clapham to exercise safely and with confidence, improve strength and balance, and recover after a fracture. According to the NHS, women are at particular risk of osteoporosis after menopause.
Osteoporosis
Weaker bones that break more easily. The right strength and impact exercise, built up gradually, helps keep your bones and muscles as strong as possible.
Osteopenia
Bone density lower than average but not low enough to be osteoporosis. A good time to start bone-friendly exercise.
Spinal Fractures and Kyphosis
Back pain, height loss or a more rounded upper back after a spinal fracture. Exercise and posture work can help with pain and movement.
Falls Prevention and Balance
Feeling unsteady or worried about falling? Strength and balance training is recommended by NICE to help prevent falls.
Menopause and Bone Health
Falling oestrogen around menopause speeds up bone loss. Our menopause physiotherapy helps you stay strong and active.
Broken Wrist Rehabilitation
A broken wrist is one of the most common fractures linked to osteoporosis. Exercises help you use your hand normally again.
Recovery After a Fracture or Surgery
Rebuild strength, walking and confidence after a broken bone or an operation, following your medical team’s guidance.
Stress Fractures in Active Women
Pain that builds with running or training could be a stress fracture. Physiotherapy guides a safe return to activity once it has healed.

Bone Health FAQs
- Can physiotherapy help osteoporosis?
Physiotherapy cannot replace osteoporosis medicine, but it can help you exercise safely, build strength and balance to reduce your risk of falls, and manage pain after a fracture.
- Is it safe to exercise with osteoporosis?
The Royal Osteoporosis Society says most people with osteoporosis can exercise safely. If you have had several broken bones or spinal fractures, get advice from your doctor or a physiotherapist first.
- What exercise is best for my bones?
The Royal Osteoporosis Society recommends a mix of impact exercise, such as brisk walking, stair climbing or heel drops, and strength exercise, built up gradually. Balance exercise also helps reduce falls.
- Why see a female-focused physiotherapist for bone health?
Women are at higher risk of osteoporosis, especially after menopause. Olivia understands how menopause, pelvic floor health and stage of life affect the exercise that is right for you.
- Do I need a DEXA scan before seeing a physiotherapist?
No. Olivia can help whether or not you have had a scan, and can suggest you speak to your GP about one if you have risk factors.
- Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, you can book directly with Olivia without a referral.
What our patients say
What I’ve appreciated most is how comfortable and at ease she makes you feel. She is kind, understanding and non judgemental, which makes talking about things that can sometimes feel quite personal so much easier. She always takes the time to listen and explains everything clearly, and the exercises are tailored to what I feel comfortable with.
I’m really grateful for all her support and would definitely recommend Olivia to anyone looking for postnatal or pelvic floor support.
