Falls Prevention and Balance Physiotherapy in Clapham
Feeling unsteady on your feet, had a recent fall, or worried about falling with osteoporosis? Olivia offers falls prevention and balance physiotherapy for women at our Clapham clinic.
Understanding Falls and Balance
As part of our bone health physiotherapy for women, Olivia helps women in Clapham improve strength and balance, reduce their risk of falls and feel confident on their feet.
Why Falls Matter
With osteoporosis, a fall is more likely to cause a broken bone, often in the wrist or hip. Reducing your risk of falling is one of the best ways to protect your bones.
What Increases Your Risk?
Common factors include weaker leg muscles, poor balance, some medicines, eyesight problems, dizziness and hazards at home.
Strength and Balance Training
NICE recommends strength and balance training as part of falls prevention for people at higher risk.
How Physiotherapy Helps
Olivia will help you:
- Build leg and core strength
- Improve your balance with progressive exercises
- Practise getting up from the floor safely
- Rebuild confidence if you are worried about falling
Fear of Falling
Being worried about falling can make you less active, which can weaken muscles further. Building strength and balance step by step helps you feel more confident.
Safety at Home
The NHS recommends removing trip hazards at home and having regular sight and hearing checks.
When to See Your GP
See your GP if you have fallen, feel dizzy or faint, or are worried your medicines are affecting your balance.
What Happens at Your First Appointment
Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes and takes place in a private room at our Clapham clinic. Olivia will:
- Talk through any falls, near misses, health and the activities you want to do
- Assess your strength, balance, posture and how you move
- Explain what she has found and agree a plan with you
- Give you a safe exercise programme to start at home

Falls Prevention FAQs
- Can physiotherapy reduce the risk of falls?
Yes. Strength and balance exercise is recommended by NICE to help prevent falls in people at higher risk.
- What are the best exercises for balance?
It depends on your current level. Olivia will build a programme that challenges your balance safely and progresses as you improve.
- I am worried about falling. Should I do less?
Usually not. Doing less can weaken your muscles. Building strength and balance gradually is safer in the long run.
- Do I need to have osteoporosis to see you about balance?
No. Olivia can help any woman who feels unsteady or wants to stay strong and active.
- Do I need a referral?
No, you can book directly with Olivia without a referral.
What our patients say
What I’ve appreciated most is how comfortable and at ease she makes you feel. She is kind, understanding and non judgemental, which makes talking about things that can sometimes feel quite personal so much easier. She always takes the time to listen and explains everything clearly, and the exercises are tailored to what I feel comfortable with.
I’m really grateful for all her support and would definitely recommend Olivia to anyone looking for postnatal or pelvic floor support.
