Knee Physiotherapy for Women in Clapham
Knee pain on stairs, when running, kneeling or getting up from a chair? Olivia offers knee physiotherapy for women at our Clapham clinic, from runner’s knee and ligament injuries to arthritis and rehabilitation after a knee replacement.
Knee Pain Conditions and Treatments
As part of our MSK physiotherapy for women, Olivia treats knee pain in Clapham, finding the cause of your pain and building a plan to get you back to walking, running and the activities you enjoy.
Runner's Knee (Patellofemoral Pain)
Pain around or behind the kneecap, worse on stairs, squatting or after sitting. Very common in women who run, and usually responds well to strengthening.
Knee Osteoarthritis
Stiffness, aching and swelling as the knee joint changes over time. Exercise is one of the most important treatments, and physiotherapy helps you stay active.
Meniscus Tear
A twisting injury or gradual wear can tear the cartilage in your knee, causing pain, swelling, clicking or locking. Many tears improve with physiotherapy.
ACL and Knee Ligament Injuries
A twist, change of direction or awkward landing can injure the ACL or MCL. Physiotherapy is key, whether or not you need surgery.
Knee Replacement Rehabilitation
Recovering from a knee replacement? Physiotherapy helps you regain movement, strength and confidence so you can get back to walking and the things you enjoy.
Patellar Tendinopathy (Jumper's Knee)
Pain just below the kneecap, worse with running, jumping or stairs. A progressive loading programme is key to recovery.
IT Band Syndrome
Pain on the outside of the knee, often building during runs. Strengthening your hips and adjusting your training usually helps.
Knee Pain and Menopause
Aching, stiff knees often become more noticeable around perimenopause and menopause. Olivia tailors treatment to this stage of life.
Hypermobile Knees
Hypermobility, which is more common in women, can leave your knees feeling unstable or achy. Physiotherapy builds strength and control to support them.

Knee Pain FAQs
- What conditions does knee physiotherapy treat?
Olivia treats runner’s knee, knee osteoarthritis, meniscus tears, ACL and other ligament injuries, patellar tendinopathy, IT band syndrome, hypermobile knees and rehabilitation after a knee replacement or knee surgery.
- Why see a female-focused physiotherapist for knee pain?
Knee pain in women is often linked to running and sport, hip strength, hypermobility and life stages such as menopause. Olivia considers these alongside a thorough knee assessment, so your treatment fits you.
- Should I rest my knee?
For a new injury, the NHS advises putting as little weight as possible on your knee and using ice for the first few days. After that, gentle movement and the right exercises usually help more than prolonged rest.
- When should I get urgent help for knee pain?
The NHS advises getting urgent help if you have severe pain, can’t put weight on your leg, your knee is very swollen or has changed shape, or you have a high temperature with a red, hot knee. Get medical advice if your knee locks or gives way.
- Do I need a scan for knee pain?
Not usually. Most knee problems can be diagnosed from your symptoms and an examination. Olivia will recommend a GP or specialist referral if a scan is needed.
- Do I need a referral?
No, you can book directly with us.
- What happens in a first appointment?
Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes. Olivia will talk through your symptoms and history, assess how your knee, hip and ankle move, then build a personalised plan including hands-on treatment, exercises and advice.
- How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem and how long you’ve had it. Many women notice improvement within a few sessions, while tendon problems, arthritis and post-surgery rehab benefit from a longer, progressive plan.
What our patients say
What I’ve appreciated most is how comfortable and at ease she makes you feel. She is kind, understanding and non judgemental, which makes talking about things that can sometimes feel quite personal so much easier. She always takes the time to listen and explains everything clearly, and the exercises are tailored to what I feel comfortable with.
I’m really grateful for all her support and would definitely recommend Olivia to anyone looking for postnatal or pelvic floor support.
