MSK Physiotherapy for Women in Clapham
Back, neck, shoulder or joint pain getting in the way of daily life? Olivia offers MSK physiotherapy for women at our Clapham clinic, with a specialist understanding of how pregnancy, menopause and hormonal changes affect your muscles and joints.
Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy Conditions and Treatments
As part of our female-focused care, Olivia offers MSK (musculoskeletal) physiotherapy for women in Clapham, treating muscle, joint and tendon pain alongside her specialist women’s health expertise in pregnancy, menopause and bone health.
Headache and Jaw (TMJ) Physiotherapy
Headaches and jaw pain are often linked to neck tension, posture, stress or clenching. Physiotherapy finds the cause and eases pain, stiffness and tension.
Neck Physiotherapy
Neck pain and stiffness are often linked to posture, desk work, feeding and carrying little ones, or stress. Physiotherapy relieves tension and restores comfortable movement.
Shoulder Physiotherapy
Frozen shoulder, impingement and rotator cuff problems can make everyday tasks painful. Frozen shoulder is most common in women aged 40 to 60. Physiotherapy restores movement.
Menopause Joint Pain
Aching, stiff joints are common around perimenopause and menopause. Olivia understands how hormonal change affects your body and tailors treatment to you.
Elbow, Wrist & Hand Physiotherapy
Tennis elbow, carpal tunnel and De Quervain’s (mummy thumb) cause pain and weakness in the arm and hand. Physiotherapy relieves symptoms and restores grip and function.
Back Physiotherapy
Lower back pain and sciatica are among the most common problems Olivia treats, including during pregnancy, after birth and around menopause. Physiotherapy relieves pain and restores movement.
Pelvis & Sacroiliac Joint Physiotherapy
Pelvic girdle pain, sacroiliac joint pain and tailbone pain are common in women, especially during and after pregnancy. Physiotherapy finds the cause and guides treatment.
Hip Physiotherapy
Hip pain from gluteal tendinopathy, bursitis, arthritis or labral problems can affect walking, sleep and exercise. Physiotherapy relieves pain and rebuilds strength.
Knee Physiotherapy
Knee pain from arthritis, ligament or cartilage problems can affect walking, stairs and exercise. Physiotherapy relieves pain and rebuilds strength, stability and mobility.
Foot & Ankle Physiotherapy
Plantar fasciitis, Achilles pain and ankle instability can make every step uncomfortable. Physiotherapy relieves pain and restores strength and stability.
Hypermobility
Hypermobility is more common in women and can cause aching, unstable or easily injured joints, fatigue and recurring pain. Physiotherapy builds strength and control to support you.
Bone Health: Osteoporosis and Osteopenia
Women lose bone quickly in the first few years after menopause. Physiotherapy provides safe, progressive strength and balance training to help protect your bones.
Post-Surgery Rehabilitation
Recovering from a hip or knee replacement, ligament repair or other orthopaedic surgery? Physiotherapy helps you safely rebuild strength, movement and confidence.
Posture and Desk-Related Pain
Long hours at a desk, on your phone or feeding your baby can cause neck, shoulder and back pain. Physiotherapy improves your strength, posture and how you move.

MSK Physiotherapy FAQs
- What is MSK physiotherapy?
MSK stands for musculoskeletal. MSK physiotherapy focuses on your muscles, bones, joints, ligaments and tendons, and covers everything from back and neck pain to arthritis, tendon problems and rehabilitation after surgery.
- Why see a female-focused physiotherapist for MSK pain?
Women’s musculoskeletal health is shaped by life stages that general MSK physiotherapy can overlook. Hormonal changes around perimenopause and menopause can affect your joints, tendons and bones, and pregnancy and birth place lasting demands on your pelvis, back and core. Olivia factors these into your assessment and treatment.
- What conditions do you treat?
Olivia treats pain and injury across the body, including neck and back pain, headaches and jaw pain, frozen shoulder and other shoulder problems, hip pain including gluteal tendinopathy, knee pain, elbow, wrist and hand problems, pelvic and sacroiliac joint pain, and foot and ankle problems, hypermobility, as well as rehabilitation after surgery and exercise for bone health.
- Can physiotherapy help with joint pain during menopause?
Yes. Joint aches and stiffness are common around perimenopause and menopause, and targeted exercise and hands-on treatment can help. Read more about our menopause physiotherapy.
- Do I need a referral to see an MSK physiotherapist?
No, you can book directly with us. Olivia will carry out a thorough assessment of your symptoms and history before building a treatment plan with you.
- How is MSK physiotherapy different from sports physiotherapy?
MSK physiotherapy treats any muscle, joint or tendon problem, whatever the cause. Sports physiotherapy uses similar skills with a focus on sports injuries and returning safely to training and competition.
- What does an MSK physiotherapy session involve?
Your session includes a thorough assessment of your movement and symptoms, hands-on treatment, targeted exercises and advice on managing your condition day to day, tailored to your diagnosis and goals.
- Is physiotherapy helpful after surgery?
Yes. Rehabilitation after surgery is a core part of MSK physiotherapy, helping you safely rebuild strength and movement after a joint replacement, ligament repair or other orthopaedic procedure.
- When should I see someone about an MSK problem?
If pain, stiffness or weakness is affecting your daily life or hasn’t improved with rest, it’s worth booking an assessment rather than waiting for it to settle on its own.
What our patients say
What I’ve appreciated most is how comfortable and at ease she makes you feel. She is kind, understanding and non judgemental, which makes talking about things that can sometimes feel quite personal so much easier. She always takes the time to listen and explains everything clearly, and the exercises are tailored to what I feel comfortable with.
I’m really grateful for all her support and would definitely recommend Olivia to anyone looking for postnatal or pelvic floor support.
