Shoulder Physiotherapy for Women in Clapham
Shoulder pain reaching overhead, getting dressed or lying on your side at night? Olivia offers shoulder physiotherapy for women at our Clapham clinic, from frozen shoulder and rotator cuff problems to instability and rehab after surgery.
Shoulder Pain Conditions and Treatments
As part of our MSK physiotherapy for women, Olivia treats shoulder pain in Clapham, finding the cause and building a plan to get you moving, sleeping and lifting comfortably again.
Frozen Shoulder
Pain and stiffness that can last months, often worse at night. Most common in women aged 40 to 60. Physiotherapy helps ease pain and restore movement.
Rotator Cuff Injury and Tendinopathy
Pain in the upper arm when lifting, reaching or lying on your side, from irritated or injured rotator cuff tendons. Exercise is the key treatment.
Shoulder Impingement and Bursitis
Pain when lifting your arm, especially overhead, sometimes called subacromial pain. Usually improves with the right exercise and activity changes.
Shoulder Dislocation and Instability
A shoulder that has dislocated or feels loose and unstable, including with hypermobility. Strengthening helps reduce the risk of it happening again.
Calcific Tendinitis
Calcium deposits in the rotator cuff can cause sudden, severe shoulder pain. Physiotherapy helps restore movement alongside medical treatment.
Shoulder Pain From Feeding and Lifting
Feeding, lifting and carrying your baby can strain your shoulders and upper back. Olivia offers specialist postnatal physiotherapy.
Shoulder Pain and Menopause
Frozen shoulder and shoulder aches often appear around perimenopause and menopause. Olivia tailors treatment to this stage of life.
Rehabilitation After Shoulder Surgery
Recovering from shoulder surgery or a shoulder replacement? Physiotherapy helps you safely rebuild movement, strength and confidence.

Shoulder Pain FAQs
- What conditions does shoulder physiotherapy treat?
Olivia treats frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injuries and tendinopathy, shoulder impingement and bursitis, calcific tendinitis, dislocation and instability, and rehabilitation after shoulder surgery.
- Why see a female-focused physiotherapist for shoulder pain?
Shoulder pain in women is often linked to life stages, such as feeding and lifting a baby, and perimenopause and menopause, when frozen shoulder becomes more common. Olivia considers these alongside a thorough assessment.
- How long does shoulder pain take to get better?
The NHS says you usually need to follow self-care for around two weeks before shoulder pain starts to ease. If it isn’t improving, physiotherapy can help.
- Should I rest my shoulder?
Gentle movement usually helps more than keeping your shoulder still. Olivia will show you which movements to do and which to avoid while it recovers.
- When should I get urgent help for shoulder pain?
The NHS advises getting urgent help for sudden severe pain, if you can’t move your arm, your shoulder has changed shape, or you have numbness or pain after an injury. Call 999 if shoulder pain comes with chest pain or breathlessness.
- Do I need a referral?
No, you can book directly with us.
- What happens in a first appointment?
Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes. Olivia will talk through your symptoms, assess your shoulder, neck and upper back, then build a personalised plan including exercises, hands-on treatment and advice.
What our patients say
What I’ve appreciated most is how comfortable and at ease she makes you feel. She is kind, understanding and non judgemental, which makes talking about things that can sometimes feel quite personal so much easier. She always takes the time to listen and explains everything clearly, and the exercises are tailored to what I feel comfortable with.
I’m really grateful for all her support and would definitely recommend Olivia to anyone looking for postnatal or pelvic floor support.
