Hip Physiotherapy for Women in Clapham
Pain on the outside of your hip, in your groin, or worse at night or on the stairs? Olivia offers hip physiotherapy for women at our Clapham clinic, with a specialist understanding of how pregnancy, menopause and life stage affect your hips.
Hip Pain Conditions and Treatments
As part of our MSK physiotherapy for women, Olivia treats hip pain in Clapham, from gluteal tendinopathy and bursitis to arthritis and rehabilitation after a hip replacement.
Gluteal Tendinopathy and Hip Bursitis (GTPS)
Pain on the outside of your hip, often worse lying on that side, on stairs or after walking. It’s common in women in midlife, and targeted strengthening is key to recovery.
Hip Labral Tear and Impingement (FAI)
A deep, catching or pinching pain at the front of the hip or groin, often linked to hip impingement. Physiotherapy improves strength and control to ease your symptoms.
Hip Flexor Strain and Pain
Pain at the front of the hip, often from overuse, running or a sudden movement. Physiotherapy eases pain and safely restores strength and flexibility.
Hip Osteoarthritis
Stiffness, aching and reduced movement as the hip joint changes over time. Exercise is a key part of treatment, and physiotherapy helps you stay strong and active.
Hip Replacement Rehabilitation
Recovering from a hip replacement? Physiotherapy helps you safely rebuild strength, movement and confidence, so you can get back to walking and the things you enjoy.
Groin and Pelvic Pain
Pain in the groin or at the front of the pelvis can come from the pubic joint rather than the hip itself. Physiotherapy finds the source and treats it.
Hip Pain in Pregnancy
Hip and groin pain are common in pregnancy as your posture and the way you move change. Olivia offers specialist antenatal physiotherapy to keep you comfortable and active.
Hip Pain After Birth
Hip pain after having a baby is often linked to muscle weakness and changes in your pelvis and core. Olivia offers specialist postnatal physiotherapy to help you recover.

Hip Pain FAQs
- What conditions does hip physiotherapy treat?
Olivia treats a wide range of hip problems, including gluteal tendinopathy and hip bursitis, labral tears and impingement, hip flexor strain, osteoarthritis and rehabilitation after hip replacement, as well as hip and groin pain linked to pregnancy.
- Why see a female-focused physiotherapist for hip pain?
Hip pain in women is often linked to life stages such as pregnancy and menopause, and to the pelvis and pelvic floor. Olivia considers these alongside a thorough hip assessment, so your treatment fits you.
- Why is my hip pain worse at night?
Pain on the outside of the hip is often worse when you lie on that side, as it squeezes the tendons and bursa. Sleeping on your other side with a pillow between your knees can help. Hip arthritis can also cause night pain.
- Can hip pain be related to pregnancy or menopause?
Yes. Hip and groin pain are common in pregnancy and are often linked to the pelvis. Read more about pelvic girdle pain. Around menopause, changes in hormones, muscle strength and activity levels can contribute to tendon and joint pain.
- When should I see a GP about hip pain?
The NHS advises seeing a GP if hip pain affects your sleep or daily life, or hasn’t improved after two weeks. Get urgent help if your hip is hot and swollen, you have a high temperature, or you can’t walk or put weight on your leg after a fall.
- Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, you can book directly with us.
- What happens in a first appointment?
Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes. Olivia will talk through your symptoms and history, assess how your hip, pelvis and back move, then build a personalised plan that may include hands-on treatment, strengthening exercises and advice on movement and sleep.
- How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem and how long you’ve had it. Many women notice improvement within a few sessions, while tendon problems and arthritis often benefit from a longer, progressive plan.
What our patients say
What I’ve appreciated most is how comfortable and at ease she makes you feel. She is kind, understanding and non judgemental, which makes talking about things that can sometimes feel quite personal so much easier. She always takes the time to listen and explains everything clearly, and the exercises are tailored to what I feel comfortable with.
I’m really grateful for all her support and would definitely recommend Olivia to anyone looking for postnatal or pelvic floor support.
