Running Injury Physiotherapy for Women in Clapham
Knee pain on longer runs, sore shins, a tight Achilles or leaking when you run? Olivia offers running injury physiotherapy for women at our Clapham clinic, from your first parkrun to your next marathon.
Common Running Injuries
As part of our sports physiotherapy for women, Olivia treats running injuries in Clapham. Most running injuries come from doing too much too soon, so treatment focuses on building strength and managing your training, not just resting.
Runner's Knee
Pain around or behind your kneecap, often worse on hills, stairs or after sitting. See our runner’s knee page.
Shin Splints
Pain along the front of your shins, common when starting running or increasing mileage. See our shin splints page.
Achilles and Heel Pain
Stiffness at the back of your heel or pain under your heel in the morning. See Achilles tendinopathy and plantar fasciitis.
IT Band and Hip Pain
Pain on the outside of your knee or hip on longer runs. See our IT band and hip physiotherapy pages.
Bone Stress Injuries
Pain that builds with running and is very localised could be a stress fracture. Not eating enough to fuel your training can increase the risk. See our bone health page.
Leaking When You Run
Leaking when running is common, but it is treatable. NICE recommends pelvic floor muscle training. See our urinary incontinence page.
Running After Having a Baby
Planning to run again after pregnancy? Our postnatal return to running programme checks your pelvic floor, core and strength first, then builds a step-by-step plan back to running.
How Physiotherapy Helps
Olivia will help you:
- Find what is driving your pain
- Adjust your training so you can keep running where possible
- Build strength in your hips, legs and feet

- Should I stop running if I have pain?
Not always. Many running injuries can be managed by reducing your distance or pace while you build strength. Olivia will help you decide what is safe.
- What causes most running injuries?
Most come from increasing your distance, speed or frequency too quickly, so your body does not have time to adapt.
- Can you help me get back to running after having a baby?
Yes. Our postnatal return to running programme checks your pelvic floor, core and strength first.
- Do I need new running shoes?
Not necessarily. Comfortable shoes that suit you are usually fine. Olivia will look at your shoes as part of your assessment.
- Do I need a referral?
No, you can book directly with Olivia without a referral.
What our patients say
What I’ve appreciated most is how comfortable and at ease she makes you feel. She is kind, understanding and non judgemental, which makes talking about things that can sometimes feel quite personal so much easier. She always takes the time to listen and explains everything clearly, and the exercises are tailored to what I feel comfortable with.
I’m really grateful for all her support and would definitely recommend Olivia to anyone looking for postnatal or pelvic floor support.
