Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) Physiotherapy in Clapham

Living with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and looking for a physiotherapist who understands? Olivia offers gentle, strength-based hEDS physiotherapy for women at our Clapham clinic.

Understanding hEDS

As part of our hypermobility physiotherapy for women, Olivia supports women with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) in Clapham, working at your pace to protect your joints and help you manage pain and fatigue.

What Is hEDS?

Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is the most common type of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. According to the NHS, it causes joint hypermobility and loose, unstable joints that dislocate easily.

Symptoms

The NHS lists joint pain and clicking, extreme tiredness, easy bruising, digestive problems and dizziness when standing up, alongside joint hypermobility.

Diagnosis

The NHS says there are no tests to confirm hEDS. It is diagnosed by a doctor from your medical history and an examination.

How Physiotherapy Helps

The NHS says physiotherapists can teach exercises to help strengthen your joints, avoid injuries and manage pain. Olivia will help you:

  • Build strength and control gradually
  • Protect unstable joints during daily tasks
  • Pace activity around fatigue and flare-ups
  • Find exercise you can keep up

Exercise and Activity

The NHS suggests lower-impact activity such as swimming or Pilates, and avoiding heavy lifting and contact sports.

A Team Approach

hEDS often needs support from several professionals. Olivia works alongside your GP and other specialists and can suggest when to seek further help.

Pelvic Floor and Pregnancy

The NHS lists bladder and bowel problems among the symptoms of hypermobility. Olivia can link your care with our pelvic floor and pregnancy physiotherapy.

What Happens at Your First Appointment

Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes and takes place in a private room at our Clapham clinic. Olivia will:

  • Talk through your diagnosis, symptoms, fatigue levels and what matters most to you
  • Assess your joints, strength, balance and how you move
  • Explain what she has found and agree a plan with you
  • Give you a manageable exercise programme to start at home
