Spinal Fracture and Kyphosis Physiotherapy in Clapham
Back pain, losing height or a more rounded upper back after a spinal fracture? Olivia offers gentle, step-by-step physiotherapy for women with osteoporotic spinal fractures and kyphosis at our Clapham clinic.
Understanding Spinal Fractures and Kyphosis
As part of our bone health physiotherapy for women, Olivia helps women in Clapham manage pain, improve posture and move with confidence after osteoporotic spinal (vertebral) fractures.
What Is a Spinal Fracture?
In osteoporosis, a bone in the spine can squash down rather than break completely. According to Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, these fractures are usually stable and do not usually affect the nerves.
Symptoms
A spinal fracture can cause sudden back pain, though some cause little pain. Over time you may notice height loss or a more rounded upper back (kyphosis).
How Long Does the Pain Last?
Leeds Community Healthcare says pain usually settles over 6 to 12 weeks. Some people have longer-lasting back pain.
Keep Moving
NHS advice is to stay active and start exercising as soon as pain allows, starting gently and building up gradually.
Posture Exercises
The Royal Osteoporosis Society says that while fractures cannot be reversed, good posture and better muscle strength and flexibility may help with some symptoms.
How Physiotherapy Helps
Olivia will help you:
- Manage pain and get moving again
- Strengthen the muscles that support your spine
- Improve posture, breathing and balance
- Learn safe ways to lift, bend and do daily tasks
When to Get Help
See your GP if you have new, severe back pain, especially after a minor fall or lifting. Get urgent help for numbness, weakness in your legs, or problems controlling your bladder or bowel.
What Happens at Your First Appointment
Your first appointment lasts 60 minutes and takes place in a private room at our Clapham clinic. Olivia will:
- Talk through your fractures, pain, treatment so far and what you find hard
- Assess your strength, balance, posture and how you move
- Explain what she has found and agree a plan with you
- Give you a safe exercise programme to start at home

What our patients say
What I’ve appreciated most is how comfortable and at ease she makes you feel. She is kind, understanding and non judgemental, which makes talking about things that can sometimes feel quite personal so much easier. She always takes the time to listen and explains everything clearly, and the exercises are tailored to what I feel comfortable with.
I’m really grateful for all her support and would definitely recommend Olivia to anyone looking for postnatal or pelvic floor support.
